The Holiday Inn Express in downtown Red Deer is known for its friendly staff, comfy beds and handy location to all the fun. Here are five ways to play at the HI Express.

One: With your arms full of downtown shopping

The hotel is a stone’s throw from Bower Place – for H&M, Toys R Us, Target and Hudson’s Bay. Or shop local at the Downtown Market on Wednesdays from 4–7 pm. Then check out the ghosts of Red Deer bronze statues and grab a latte and people-watch on the Ross Street summer patio.

You’re also close to a pub with 40 kinds of scotchcountry bar and Red Deer’s best burger and wings.

Two: Quietly while napping

We went on a sleepcation once, right before our son arrived – it went like this: sleep, eat, movie, sleep. It was heavenly.

Nestle into a newly renovated, quiet room with a super comfy bed and fluffy pillows, a microwave for movie popcorn and fridge for bevvies. Then sleep like an angel for one whole blessed night all the way through til morning. Yawn – I’m ready.

Three: With your mouth full of free hot breakfast

Wake up each day – totally refreshed – to free pancakes, omelets, bacon and the chef’s signature cinnamon buns. And if it’s Wednesday evening, join the manager for a guest reception with drinks and hot appies.

Four: Sliding into the swimming pool

Splash down the waterslide into the hotel’s saltwater pool, warm up in the sauna and watch TV from the hot tub. They also have a 24-hour fitness centre – if you’re here with the team for a tournament.

Five: A round or three of golf

Hey golfers, Red Deer has seven courses within an hour’s drive. Try the urban River Bend course with a tubing stream for the kids or 36 holes on the top-ranked links-style Wolf Creek. Or take a drive at Canada’s longest hole at the Nursery. And then there’s always frolf too of course, if that’s how you roll.
