How to treat your lady to a shopping day in downtown Red Deer in four easy steps. Step 1: have coffee, step 2: shop, step 3: couple’s massage, step 4: a nice steak dinner. Bam. You sir, just scored major points – maybe you should stay over at a downtown hotel, and well, you don’t need my help there.

Step 1: Coffee

Fuel up at one of downtown’s independent coffee shops with a frothy toasty whipped-creamy drink. Try Bistro on GaetzSolid GroundDoseQuenched or the Cool Beans bus (they have a chocolate cookie latte that sounds delicious, plus it’s in a double decker bus).

Step 2: Shop

You may choose to split up for an hour or so at this point – me, I’d want to go to the record store, but I might pick shoes over sports memorabilia. Or maybe you just can’t stand to be apart from her and like to watch her try on clothes then stick together like good waffles do.

She will definitely want to hit the Denim Shack (they have a nail salon in the back), Great Strides for shoes, the Bra Lounge and the Paper Crane Gallery, a Japanese paper and gift shop. Stuff dudes like: Bill Sr.’s Sports Cards, Soundhouse guitar and record shop, Amazing Fantasy Comics53rd St. Music and Wipe-out Ski and Bike.

Step 3: Couple’s spa

OK, bro, keep an open mind here. Your squooshy side might really like having soft smooth feet and buffed nails. Or you get a healing foot massage while she gets buffed and polished to a shine.Secrets Day Spa offers couple’s treatments so you can crack silly jokes to make her laugh while you melt into puddles of bliss together.

Step 4: A nice steak dinner

Of course, it doesn’t have to be steak – though One Eleven has a bacon-wrapped tenderloin andRedstone grills a mean strip loin, just saying. You might pick spicy Caribbean at 1 Island, creamy butter chicken at Indian Flame or the romantic fireplace table at La Casa Pergola.

After dinner, you can head back to your hotel – the iHotel 67 has big soaker tubs, Jacuzzi suites and a roses-and-bubbly romance package and Red Deer Lodge has a courtyard hot tub. Or you can keep the night going with Vat beer and rock bands at The Vat, martinis, blues, jazz and folk at the Velvet Olive and music and comedy, the hottest of hot wings and flapper-style waitresses at Fratters Speakeasy.
